Albania-Hungary 0-1
Torghelle keeps Hungary flying high
Sándor Torghelle scored the only goal as Hungary left Albania with maximum points to maintain their impressive start to qualifying Group 1.
Salihi chances
With former Dutch internationals on either bench – Arie Haan coaching Albania and Erwin Koeman the Magyars – it was not surprising that this was an attacking affair. Hamdi Salihi twice went close to breaking the deadlock for the hosts in the first half, heading wide at the back post before dragging a shot off-target following a defensive mistake by Szabolcs Huszti.
Winning goal
At the other end, two Tamás Hajnal efforts provided signs of Hungary's intent and the visitors duly scored what turned out to be the winner after 38 minutes. Home full-back Armend Dallku headed a speculative Huszti cross straight into the path of the unmarked Torghelle, who controlled the ball on his thigh before firing into the Albania net.
Denmark on top
Geed on by a raucous crowd, Albania kept Hungary No1 Gábor Babos busy in the second half without creating the gilt-edged opening which might have earned them an equaliser. Despite holding on for the win, though, Hungary still trail leaders Denmark on goal difference ahead of the visit of Malta to Budapest on Wednesday, when Albania travel to Copenhagen.
