Dutch coach Haan now holds the honour of being the first coach to lead Albania through two unbeaten games at the start of a major qualifying campaign.

Arie Haan earned his first win as Albania coach as goals from Erjon Bogdani, Klodian Duro and Armend Dallku took their Group 1 total to four points.

Opening goal
Albania looked set to go in at the break with nothing to show for their efforts, with Ervin Skela, Lorik Cana and Duro all trying their luck and failing against a resolute Maltese defence. However, a minute into first-half added time, AC Chievo Verona striker Bogdani finally found the composure his team-mates had lacked, rising to head home a cross from Duro.

Late double
The pressure continued after half-time and though Albania lost Bogdani – their only out-and-out striker on the night – to injury in the 72nd minute, they eventually added to their advantage. Duro doubled their lead with a shot from inside the box five minutes from time, and Dallku sealed the victory late on following a cross from Jahmir Hyka.

Albanian first
Dutch coach Haan now holds the honour of being the first coach to lead Albania through two unbeaten games at the start of a major qualifying campaign. The 59-year-old said: "It's a good start. We have to enjoy that and move forward. It's only the beginning, but hopefully we can build on it."
